Volunteering With Street Cat Hub
Volunteer Requirements:
Age 16 and older (unless otherwise specified in position).
Most volunteer jobs require the ability to squat, bend, twist, lift and stand for at least two hours.
Volunteer Positions:
Intake Volunteer
Position Description: This position assists staff in checking in incoming cats, labeling traps, preparing surgery sheets, weighing cats, placing in holding area, and feeding. Typically 10a-12p Sunday to Tuesday.
Skills Required: Requires standing, bending, kneeling, stretching, twisting, and lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Needs to be safety-oriented. Good organizational skills are critical as well as the ability to follow directions and be flexible with change. Must be ok working with cats and seeing and cleaning blood, feces, urine, saliva, etc. May come into contact with cleaning chemicals.
Spay/Neuter Recovery Volunteer
Position Description: This position supports clinic staff and ensures cat welfare and post-operative recovery by preparing and working in the recovery and monitoring area. Tasks include removing empty traps from the pre-op area, removing/cleaning any debris and/or fecal matter, if needed, and preparing the trap for the cat’s post-op monitoring by lining the trap with pre-cut piddle pads. Cats will be consistently monitored and stimulated, then moved to the holding area when awake. Experienced or well-qualified volunteers may be permitted to prepare injectable vaccines and provide additional post-operative support including taking and recording vitals and administering post-operative medications and injections. Morning and midday shifts, typically Monday to Wednesday.

Good organizational skills are critical, as well as the ability to follow directions and be flexible with change. Must be ok with seeing and cleaning blood, feces, urine, saliva, etc. Because of the nature of surgery, volunteers must be attentive and methodical in their job and dedicated to all life-saving protocols and procedures. Legible handwriting is important for creating medical records. Must be comfortable working with cats. There may be direct contact with cleaning chemicals. Must be 18+.
Surgical Clean Team Volunteer
Position Description: This position requires experience with medical equipment cleaning, sanitation and sterilization procedures or is a promotion from an existing volunteer position after training. Includes preparing and cleaning surgical tools, helping with surgical packs, and sterilization with autoclave. May also be asked to prepare injectable vaccines. Morning and midday shifts, typically Monday to Wednesday.
Skills Required: This position requires standing for long periods, bending, kneeling, stretching, twisting, and lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Attention to detail is crucial, as is the ability to follow directions and be flexible with change. Must be observant and attend to tasks promptly following facility protocols. Must be ok with exposure to and cleaning blood, feces, urine, saliva, etc. Must be comfortable working with cats. There will be direct contact with cleaning chemicals such as Bleach, Peroxide, and Rescue (Accel). Must be 18+.
Clinic Clean Team Volunteer
Position Description: Specific responsibilities will include cleaning traps of cats in holding by removing soiled liners and food trays and moving trapped cats to front lobby for pickup by caregivers or trapping team or to surgery room as directed by staff. Also includes thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing unoccupied traps that have been returned and need to be prepared for use with new cats. Helping staff wipe down and sanitize holding racks and prepare for incoming cats; running and folding laundry; cutting piddle pads for lining traps, sweeping and mopping floors, and other various cleaning duties. There will be direct contact with cleaning chemicals such as Bleach, Peroxide, and Rescue (Accel). Must be 16+. Early morning to midday shifts, typically Monday to Thursday.
Skills Required: This is predominantly a standing position but also requires bending, kneeling, stretching, twisting, and lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Attention to detail is crucial, as is the ability to follow directions and be flexible with change. It is important to be a self-starter and an independent worker. Must be ok with seeing and cleaning blood, feces, urine, saliva, etc. Must be comfortable working with cats.
Administrative Support Volunteer
Position Description: Work with the Communications & Program Manager and other staff to input data from Surgery Sheets and put together post-operative paperwork as needed. Other administrative duties as assigned. This position requires on-site work at Street Cat HUB’s office. Typically, midday and afternoon shifts Sunday to Wednesday.
Skills Required: This is primarily a sitting position but the ability to bend, twist, carry, and lift is preferred. Good organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail are critical as well as the ability to follow directions and be flexible with change. Legible handwriting is ideal. Must be comfortable working in an environment with several cats. Must be 16+.
Outreach & Education Team Volunteer
Position Description: Attend planned outreach events to educate public about Street Cat Hub, TNR, and provide information and resources for accessing our services or volunteering.
Time Commitment: Time commitment will vary depending on event, typically 1-4 hours and may include evenings and weekends.
Skills Required: Candidates will be skilled at verbal communication with others, and will be comfortable initiating conversation with members of the public. Must be 16+.
